Malta and Valletta have a long and inextricably linked history with the Order of the Knights of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (The Knights Hospitaller)’.
In this talk, we look at the 1565 Great Siege of Malta; the battle which took place between the Knights; led by the French nobleman – Jean Parisot de Valletta, Grand Master of the Order of St John, and Suleiman the Great; the most successful of all Ottoman Sultans.
Greatly outnumbered, the Knights of St John fought valiantly against all odds and were victorious in this battle that changed the history for Malta and the Mediterranean.
Today, the fortified city of Valletta; is glorious – a Mecca for tourists, and was officially recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980
